Duty Locations

Locations will be assigned based on operational and mission requirements. You must be open to working at any duty location in your chosen region, which may include:

  • Southeast Region: Homestead, FL and Aguadilla, PR
  • Southwest Region: Tucson and Yuma, AZ; San Diego, CA; El Paso, Laredo, and McAllen, TX
  • NASOC UAS locations: Sierra Vista, AZ; San Angelo, TX

Duties and Responsibilities

As an Aviation Enforcement Agent, you will engage in aviation-based law enforcement operations that protect our borders from illegal threats. Key responsibilities include:

  • Conducting aerial patrols, surveillance, and pursuits to intercept smuggled contraband and unauthorized entries.
  • Monitoring the activities of suspects, vehicles, and vessels believed to be involved in illegal operations.
  • Collecting and analyzing intelligence to inform operational strategies.
  • Supporting search, rescue, and humanitarian missions as needed.

Salary and Benefits

Begin your career as an Aviation Enforcement Agent and earn between $106,000 and $127,000 annually, depending on your qualifications at the GS-11 level along with potential additional compensation from overtime pay (up to 25% of your salary). Your starting pay will include special salary rates, Law Enforcement Availability Pay (LEAP), and incentives.

This role offers a pathway to promotions through a structured career ladder from GS-11 to GS-13.

Qualifications

Experience: To qualify for the GS-11 level, you need at least one year of specialized aviation experience involving:

  • Serving as a Pilot-in-Command in various flying conditions, including challenging weather and environments.
  • Quickly evaluating and making decisions during flight operations.
  • Coordinating aircraft activities and ground assets effectively.
  • Utilizing information systems to manage operational data.

Minimum Requirements:

You must have a current FAA Commercial or ATP Pilot Certification, including:

  • Combined airplane and helicopter ratings with instrument certifications.
  • Single or multi-engine airplane ratings with an instrument rating.
  • Helicopter rating with an instrument.

Flight Hours: You should have 1,500 flight hours (with potential waivers allowing a minimum of 1,000 hours). Additionally, you need:

  • 250 Pilot-in-Command hours
  • 75 Instrument hours
  • 75 Night hours
  • 100 Flight hours in the last 12 months

Medical Requirements: An FAA Class 2 medical certificate is required.

Other Requirements:

  • You must be a U.S. Citizen with primary residency for at least three of the last five years.
  • Age Requirement: The maximum age for initial appointment to this role is 40, per recent updates.
