City Driver Position Overview:

\n\n

Pick up and deliver freight between Service Centers and customers, and support the selling process

\n\n

Road Driver Position Overview:

\n\n

Pick up and deliver trailers between Service Centers and/or turn-point locations via tractor-trailer combinations

\n\n

City Driver Essential Functions:

\n\n

\n\t
• Operate tractor-trailer combination, including doubles (and triples, where applicable) and/or straight trucks
\n\t
• Perform daily pre-trip and safety inspections on equipment
\n\t
• Hook/unhook trailers and converter dollies to/from a tractor and/or trailer
\n\t
• Perform freight handling using appropriate motorized and manual equipment, including but not limited to: forklift, pallet jack, and hand truck
\n\t
• Secure freight inside trailers using appropriate tools and supplies, including but not limited to: pallets, straps, and rope
\n\t
• Recoup/repair damaged freight when necessary
\n\t
• Verify and complete required documentation and reports
\n\t
• Comply with hazardous material regulations and procedures
\n\t
• Collect cash or checks for freight charges, as required, and maintain required documentation
\n\t
• Follow dispatch instructions and communicate with dispatch as required, including but not limited to: delays, arrivals, and equipment problems
\n\t
• Communicate with customers to determine pick-up or delivery needs and solicit additional business
\n\t
• Demonstrate internal and external customer service
\n\t
• Ask for additional business from customers, and provide leads to sales for potential new opportunities
\n\t
• May be required to perform the chaining of vehicle tires
\n\t
• May be required to perform job duties of a road driver or a dock employee, where operationally necessary
\n\t
• Comply with all applicable laws/regulations, as well as company policies/procedures
\n\t
• Perform other duties as required

City & Road Driver Qualifications:

\n\n

\n\t
• Must possess a Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with double/triple, hazardous materials, and tank endorsements.** Automatic transmission CDL restriction allowed
\n\t
• Must possess 1 year of experience within the most recent 3 years, or successful completion of the FedEx Freight Driver Development Course
\n\t
• Must have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) based on hiring standards
\n\t
• Must meet all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulatory requirements under section 391 of the Federal Motor Carrier (FMC) regulations
\n\t
• Long combination vehicles (LCV) (i.e., Triple Trailers, Rocky Mountain Doubles, and Turnpike Doubles) are operated in the states of AZ, CO, FL, ID, IN, KS, MT, ND, NV, OH, OK, OR, SD, and UT. LCV Drivers in these states must meet the LCV Qualification and Certification minimum standards
\n\t
• Ability to count and perform basic math, with or without a calculator
\n\t
• Basic written and verbal communication skills (documentation, communication with peers, supervisors, etc.)
\n\t
• Ability to hook up and break down sets of trailers that require an average lift force of about 100 pounds, several times a day or more
\n\t
• Ability to sit for extended periods of time, bend, twist, squat, and climb in and out of the truck
\n\t
• Ability to follow instructions and complete required training
\n\t
• Ability to work independently and/or as a team member
\n\t
• Demonstrates initiative and motivation
\n

(**The Hazardous Materials endorsement must be obtained within 120 days of offer acceptance. An employee will not be allowed to drive a commercial motor vehicle without this endorsement)

• Drive throughout the shift on all types of roads and in all types of weather

• Exposure to noise and vibration

• Exposure to dust and diesel fumes

• Exposure to hazardous materials shipped and packaged under DOT regulations

• Hours may vary due to operational need
\n

Road Driver Working Conditions:

\n\n

\n\t
• Drive long distances day and night on all types of roads and in all types of weather
\n\t
• Exposure to noise and vibration
\n\t
• Exposure to dust and diesel fumes
\n\t
• Exposure to hazardous materials shipped and packaged under DOT regulations
\n\t
• Hours may vary due to operational need
\n\t
• Overnight stays may be required for some schedules
\n

City & Road Driver Additional Details:

\n\n

\n\t
• Starting rate of pay: $35.13 per hour
\n\t
• Mileage pay range: $0.6953 - $0.8049 per mile for linehaul duties, plus fixed pay for certain linehaul-related tasks equal to a fraction of the hourly rate (3/4, 1/2, 1/4), not based on time taken*
\n
