Job Description

  • DESCRIPTION OF POSITION
    • The CMO will serve as a key member of the senior leadership team. They will provide clinical leadership, expertise and perspective to the senior leadership team as well as the medical staff and other team members across the organization. In addition to providing leadership and expertise in support of clinical activities and clinical quality, the CMO will play an important role in the development and execution of business strategies that will support the accomplishment of goals across the enterprise.

      The CMO will promote shared accountability between physicians and the system for the benefit of patients, providers, and the community. The successful candidate will serve as a liaison and advocate creating long-term collaborations and relationships between the medical staff, Morris Hospital leadership and the board of directors. The role includes an expectation to remain clinically active and maintain a high level of clinical credibility with the hospital. The CMO will report directly to the President and CEO. The CMO will work at 80% capacity or higher in the CMO role and 20% in a clinical role as a physician.
  • QUALIFICATIONS
    • Professional/Educational
      • Business degree (Master's preferred) or equivalent experience ideal. MD or equal required. All candidates must be licensed or eligible for licensure in the State of Illinois.
      • 10+ years' experience in senior clinical leadership - ideally as CMO or Chair of a large department with experience driving improvements in quality and safety; community hospital setting is required.
      • High comfort level managing a combination of employed physicians and independent providers
      • Significant clinical experience and board certification in their specialty area.

      • Ability to balance multiple demands and competing priorities.
      • Effectively prioritize activities and appropriately allocate resources and staff to accomplish objectives.
      • Implements strategies directed at improving clinical care and making operations responsive to the needs of customers.
      • Ability to help build a culture around service and meeting and exceeding the needs of customers.
      • Relates easily and effectively with patients, staff, Medical Staff, and Board of Directors.
      • Able to share in Administrator-on-Call responsibilities with the Senior Management Team.
