Full-time (36 hrs/wk) in Emergency Dept at McKay-Dee Hospital. Interacts directly with pediatric patients, families and other health team members and facilitates age-appropriate interactions and activities to help make the health care experience easier for patients and families. Reduces patient and family distress, increases effective patient and family coping, fosters patient independence, and promotes optimum development. Provides supervision to volunteers, child life pre-internship students and child life assistants. This position is for Emergency Department coverage at McKay-Dee Hospital. Rotating 3 shifts a week, nights and weekends for 36 hours/wk. This position will work three 12 hour shifts (12:00pm - 12:30am). There is one other Emergency Dept Child Life Specialist who you may be able to swap shifts with, if needed, but we do stick to a fixed schedule. Incumbent will be the only CCLS (Child Life Specialist) working during this time, so incumbent would be expected to prioritize which patients need the most support. There will be circumstances where you are called to other units outside of the ED like our pediatrics unit, NICU, and adult ICU. Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution, documentation of a successfully completed 600-hour internship supervised by a Child Life Specialist, Child Life Certification from Association of Child Life Professionals (ACLP) or eligible for certification to be obtained within 15 months of hire date, experience with pediatric patients in medical, hospital or behavioral health setting, experience in Child Life Core Competencies including supportive relationships, meeting needs of child and family, education and communication, coping support, therapeutic play, assessment and documentation, computer experience. Essential Functions: Assess, prioritize, and document pediatric patient and family care; develop, implement, and evaluate pediatric patient and family centered health care plans; provide developmentally appropriate education, procedural preparation, coping support, comfort management, and play opportunities; participate in selection, supervision, and training of new hires, students and volunteers; provide education for staff; assist with community outreach and Foundation partnerships; adhere to ACLP Child Life Code of Ethics; meet child life department expectations. Preferred Qualifications: Masters Degree preferred, Registered Behavior Technician or Behavioral Health Experience preferred, experience with Autism and related disabilities or behavioral challenges preferred, one year experience with pediatric patients, work experience as child life assistant or pre-internship/practicum student, supervising volunteers, Spanish speaking. Physical Requirements include frequent verbal communication, ability to see and read information, manual dexterity, lifting and transferring patients and supplies, standing for extended periods.
