Competencies : A. Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
Successful completion of formal training in Boiler, Cooling Tower, Chiller, Pump, and Motor operation and maintenance at a vocational or technical school, college, or apprenticeship sponsor organization.
Successful completion of applicable continuing education, equivalent to one additional year of training.
B. Knowledge: Demonstrated knowledge of power plant operation and maintenance theory, techniques, codes, procedures and materials. This includes operation of boilers, pumps, steam turbines, steam systems, chillers and refrigeration cycle; and maintenance of pumps, valves, pneumatic controls, and compressors.
C. Skills: Ability to solve operational plant problems to maximize plant safety and efficiency.
Requires proficient written and verbal English communication skills, at least on a high school graduate level, to interact with departmental/JHM staff; prepares work reports, and operational reports, understands Power Plant technical terminology and has a working vocabulary.
D. Required Licensure, Certification, etc.: Current, valid First (1st) Class Operating Engineer license.
E. Work Experience: 5 years total related work experience.
F. Machines, Tools, Equipment: Demonstrated competency to correctly operate all types of tools and equipment normally used in power plant operation and maintenance including operation of boilers, pumps, turbines, steam systems and chillers, maintenance of pumps, valves and compressors; and powered portable, bench and hand tools (such as drills, grinders, compressed air), as well as non-powered hand tools; and various types of measuring and testing equipment and computer control or monitoring systems.
