Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Patient/Customer Relations:
1. Communicates with patients in a courteous and professional manner in face-to-face encounters and via the telephone.
2. Educates the patient and family members on the patient's diagnoses within the scope of knowledge and authority.
3. Obtains complete medical history from patient and/or family, and/or previous medical record, etc., as appropriate and within the scope of knowledge and authority.
4. Communicates effectively with patients, family members, and community partners.
Staff Relations/Team Building: 1. Provides inspiring and accountable leadership, direction, and performance management over all medical provider practices at JHC.
2. Participates with the Provider in the implementation of the plan of care and multidisciplinary patient education.
3. Communicate with other members of the Patient Care Team regarding incoming patient data and reports that require patient notification and treatment interventions.
4. Articulates thoughts and ideas, including suggestions for change, in a positive manner.
5. Develop excellent working relationships with JHC staff and community partners.
6. Works with supervisor and other staff in a positive and professional manner.
7. Provide constructive feedback and communicate accurate information.
8. Leads department meetings with staff.9. Meets with supervisors on a regularly scheduled basis and, as requested, to discuss any leadership, clinical, or administrative opportunities and concerns.
10. Demonstrates reliability by being visible, reporting to work on time, keeping the assigned schedule, and keeping supervisors, peers, and direct reports informed of any changes to the schedule.
11. Dresses appropriately and professionally for the position.
Clinical Duties:
1. Examines existing medical care standards, protocols, and practices; revises and enhances; works with medical directors and business intelligence to establish benchmarks to ensure that patients are receiving the highest quality of care possible.
2. Provides primary medical care to patients in accordance with medical specialty, assessing, diagnosing, treating, evaluating, and monitoring patients' health status including providing complete physical examinations.3. Works half-day per week in clinic seeing patients.4. Supervises, monitors, and directs day-to-day activities of medical providers.
5. Effectively utilizes JHC's health records software.
6. Uses articulate and professional language in the electronic health record (EHR) documentation and any professional correspondence.7. Keeps patient records up to date with required documentation for Medicaid and other insurance providers.
8. Diagnoses based on clinical findings, laboratory and x-ray reports, and/or the results of other diagnostic procedures according to approved protocols.
9. Formulates, initiates, and monitors patient management plans for patients assigned.
10. Demonstrates appropriate referral of patients requiring specialty or a higher level of care including hospitalization or assessment and management of conditions beyond their expertise or scope of practice to emergency department physicians or appropriate specialists.
11. Renders emergency care and treatment including cardiopulmonary resuscitation, starting I-V fluids, and ordering of appropriate emergency medications.
12. Sutures lacerations and addresses acute orthopedic injury if within scope of care.
13. Performs other necessary clinical duties as required.
14. Consults with physicians and other members of health care team as necessary for clinical questions.
15. Physical attendance is an essential element of the EVPCA/CMO's position.
Administrative Duties:
1. Responsible for executive leadership and direction, in conjunction and collaboration with the President/Chief Executive Officer (P/CEO), for clinical operations at JHC and can positively and proactively lead change.
2. Serves as an executive point of contact for Johnson Health Center as designated by the P/CEO when required.
3. Provides extensive leadership in multiple areas that have depth and complexity, with significant organizational span.4. Partners with executive and leadership teams to develop and implement JHC operations, policies, procedures, and protocols.
5. Works collaboratively with and serves as primary liaison to the Executive Vice President of Operations/Chief Operating Officer (EVPO/COO) to implement patient-focused and efficiency-based process improvements and staff/patient satisfaction efforts.
6. Collaborates with executive team to build and drive implementation of the strategic plan as approved by the Board of Directors.
7. Serves as a role model by demonstrating positive team-based and core value behaviors and assures appropriate provider staffing at all locations.
8. Represents JHC/clinical practices to the community board, County departments and agencies, and professional and community organizations.
9. Participates in community organization activities designed to positively impact community health disparities and behaviors.
10. Fosters linkages with local clinics, state public health department, etc. Acts as liaison to local, state, and national professional societies.11. Adheres to all policies and safety regulations established by JHC.
12. Makes recommendations to the P/CEO regarding clinical programs, the employment, promotion, transfer, and discharge of all medical provider staff.
13. Handling patient complaints with the Director of Family Medicine (DFM) and other directors as needed.
14. Participate in the selection of physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and other clinical staff as needed.
15. Work with DFM on provider evaluations, specifically physicians.
16. Work with billing to ensure all providers' coding is accurate to reduce organizational risk and maximize reimbursement.
17. Provide supervisory oversight to DFM, Chief Nursing Officer (CNO), Director of OB/GYN (DOBGYN), Director of Psychiatry (DP), and Associate Director of Counseling Services (ADCS).
Performance Improvement Activities:
1. Leads clinical Performance Improvement activities and is responsible for development of clinical practice guidelines.
2. Co-Chairs Continuous Quality Improvement Program initiatives for JHC.
3. Serves as Chair of the Medical Management Committee4. Participates in Performance Improvement Workgroup.
5. Develops annual goals for provider team and reports to Performance Improvement Workgroup on a quarterly basis.
6. Works with provider staff to develop and institute performance improvement activities on an ongoing basis and to ensure activities are in alignment with performance improvement goals.
Safety/Infection Control Activities:
1. Attends all mandatory OSHA Infection control trainings and follows general OSHA guidelines for infection control, including "Universal Precautions".
2. Abides by all JHC infection control policies, including acute response measures in the setting of a public health concern or disease outbreak.
Other Functions: 1. Abides by the Code of conduct as documented in the Corporate Compliance Manual.2. Demonstrates a personal and professional commitment to JHC and its mission.
3. Treats all patients and staff with dignity and respect, mindful of the cultural differences of the diverse population we serve.
4. Ensures that any job functions that are added or changed as organizational needs require by Management are performed accurately, completely, and efficiently.
5. Keeps professional licenses required for the position, current and up to date. Obtains all continuing education required for license renewal.

Qualifications: 1. Physician's license to practice medicine in Virginia. Current certification by appropriate specialty board.
2. 10-15 years of proven clinical and executive leadership at the director or above level or equivalent related experience.
3. Must be qualified in Basic Life Support techniques.
4. Proven ability to work collaboratively and prioritize deliverables with peers on the executive team.
5. Proven ability to effectively inspire, lead and supervise clinical staff and exhibit humility and executive leadership presence in all circles of influence.
6. Proven ability and experience to analyze complex information and communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
7. Proven ability to set priorities, launch programs and strategies, and make decisions on critical health care programs and issues, working closely with executive and leadership staff to collectively keep JHC at the forefront of the evolving healthcare and FQHC space. FQHC experience preferred.8. Experience with accountable care organizations (ACO) and/or clinically integrated network experience highly preferred.
9. Must possess personal and professional qualities to earn the confidence and respect of staff. The ability to drive a positive workplace culture.10. Valid driver's license.
Physical Demand and Working Environment: Fast paced office setting with travel to other offices often. Lifting and/or exerting force up to 35 pounds occasionally, with frequently moving of objects. Work requires speaking, sitting, bending, walking, standing, hearing, stooping, kneeling, and repetitive motion with certain activities. OSHA high risk position.
