Job Description: Use AutoCAD to prepare layouts of fire alarm systems, detail drawings, calculations, sketches, and diagrams, including all views and dimensions necessary for field installation. Prepare submittals and adhere to project schedules. Demonstrate understanding of design/drafting techniques, fire alarm terminology, low voltage systems, and perform necessary calculations. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Design Responsibilities: Develop shop drawings, voltage/battery calculations, and equipment lists complying with NFPA, local, and state codes, project specifications, and cost-effective installation practices. Conduct accurate field surveys as needed. Coordinate shop drawings with the MEP team and General Contractor. Prepare submittal packages for authorities having jurisdiction (AHJ), contractors, etc., and obtain approvals. Provide record set shop drawings based on as-built markups. Review AHJ comments, make corrections, and communicate effectively with AHJ and electrical contractors. Conduct quality control reviews on shop drawings, calculations, and submittals. Lead hand-off meetings to explain system layouts and designs to field technicians, ensuring full project understanding. Collaborate with sales staff, designers, technicians, management, and project coordinators with a positive outlook. Design and draft fire alarm systems, understanding NFPA 72, NFPA 70, IBC, OSSC, and related codes, using AutoCAD. Create designs utilizing ASPIRE for air sampling smoke detection systems by Xtralis. Key Skills and Capabilities: Ability to interpret construction documents. Strong analytical and mathematical skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, ASPIRE, and fire alarm design tools. Knowledge of low voltage calculations, equipment configuration, and project design. Experience designing complex fire alarm systems including networks and smoke control. Understanding of construction practices and terminology. Excellent communication skills. Organized, detail-oriented, self-starter capable of teamwork. Familiarity with NFPA 72, IBC, OSSC, NFPA 70, and related standards. Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent. At least 2 years of experience in fire alarm design. Experience with AutoCAD and fire alarm design tools. Experience with Onyx Notifier, Silent Knight, or similar networked fire alarm systems.
