Fractional Controller (Home Services Expert)

Company: Lone Star Turf Location: Austin, TX (Hybrid - Approx. 1 session/week on-site) Commitment: 15 Hours per week Compensation: [$100–$175/hr] or Monthly Retainer

The Mission

We are seeking a Fractional Controller to act as the financial architect of our growing home improvement business. You will bridge the gap between our daily QuickBooks entries and our long-term profitability. Your goal is to ensure every project we take on is hitting its target margin and that our cash flow is optimized to support our Austin operations.

Home-Service Specific Responsibilities

• Job Costing Mastery: Audit our QuickBooks setup to ensure every labor hour and material purchase is accurately allocated to specific projects.
• WIP (Work in Progress) Management: Implement accurate "Revenue Recognition" so we know exactly how much profit we’ve actually earned versus what is just sitting in the bank as a deposit.
• Vendor & Subcontractor Oversight: Streamline our AP process for material suppliers and subs to ensure we are maximizing payment terms and capturing all discounts.
• Austin Market Analytics: Monitor localized labor costs and material inflation in the Central Texas area to help us adjust our project bidding in real-time.
• The "Profit Dashboard": Provide a weekly report on Gross Margin per Crew/Job so we can identify which types of projects are our real "winners."

Requirements

• QuickBooks Power User: Must be able to clean up, restructure, and automate a QuickBooks Online or Desktop environment.
• Home Services DNA: Direct experience in HVAC, Roofing, Remodeling, or similar trade-based industries is required.
• Local Presence: Must be able to meet at our Austin office once a week for strategy sessions and team alignment.
• The "Clean-Up" Mentality: We need someone who isn't afraid to dig into the existing books, find the errors, and build a scalable system.
