Graduate Nurse ICU Transitional Program - Trauma (UPMC Presbyterian)

Do you have a career goal to become a skilled and confident ICU nurse? UPMC Presbyterian, a Magnet designated hospital, is currently hiring a Full-time Registered Nurse to join our Ortho/Trauma unit 9N, and our Surgical/Trauma Intensive Care Unit, 6F/G.

\n

This transitional program is a fast track to the ICU and is designed to equip you with the skills that you need to become a successful ICU nurse. You will begin your nursing career on 9N, and then transition to 6F/G. In this time, it is our goal to help build the foundation, knowledge, and skill sets required when caring for the diverse and high-acuity patient population.

\n

About the Units:

\n

9 North at UPMC Montefiore is a 25-bed surgical orthopedic and urology department, caring for patients with orthopedic trauma, spinal injuries, and injuries/conditions related to the upper extremities as well as urological patients.

\n

6F/G is a 22-bed trauma and general surgery unit caring for very high acuity surgical patients as well as victims of severe trauma including blunt force and penetrating injuries. In caring for our patients, we utilize ventilators, therapeutic hypothermia, and CVVHD, manage multiple vasopressors and TBI, and perform emergent surgical procedures at the bedside. In addition, we admit overflow neurovascular and stroke patients, and patients with traumatic brain injury.

Transitioning to the ICU is contingent on upon the employee’s performance during the first year of hire. They must obtain a Solid/Strong/Good performance rating, lack any disciplinary action, and meet all requirements/expectations of their hiring unit.

  • No RN experience required.   BSN preferred.
  • \n\t
  • Completion of UPMC Student Nurse Internship Program or student clinical transitions course at UPMC preferred
  • \n\t
  • The individual must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and/or interact appropriately to the ages of the patients served by his/her assigned unit as specified below.
  • \n\t
  • They must also demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patients requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs and to provide the care needs as described in the department policy and procedures.

  • Ability to establish and maintain positive, caring relationships with executives, managers, physicians, non-physician providers, ancillary and support staff, other departments, and patients/families.

  • Ability to work productively and effectively within a complex environment, handle multiple/changing priorities and specialized equipment.
