Job Description

This role is responsible for leading and executing Internal Audit projects, as part of an annual internal audit plan, performing issue validations and supporting the external audit direct assistance process. There will be interaction with internal audit vendors, other Amerant assurance groups and external auditors.

Responsibilities:

  • Plan, lead and execute audit projects for assigned areas of responsibility.
  • Obtain an understanding of regulatory, operational, technology and financial reporting risks through review of prior period results, financial results, reliable external information, industry trends, and gain an understanding of expected transactions.
  • Identify and assess areas of risk and develop audit programs to address those risks ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements and internal policies.
  • Perform effective audit documentation that captures our understanding of the audited processes and technology applications used by business units, including the flow of transactions, identification of risk areas, and mapping controls that mitigate the risks noted.
  • Execute and document testing of design, testing of operating effectiveness of controls and transactional testing with clear detailed documentation of procedures performed and results reached using Amerant’s policies and procedures and relevant auditing standards.
  • Monitor audit project progress to ensure completion within allotted time frames and objectives are achieved.
  • Review work papers of other junior auditors and co-sourcing vendors ensuring quality and objective of the audit test has been met.
  • Communicate audit findings to Management and relevant stakeholders and follow-up on remediation efforts related to such findings.
  • Continuously track the status of identified issues, examine supporting documentation and execute procedures to verify remediation activities ensuring timely validation.
  • Prepare detailed audit reports outlining audit findings and recommendations, obtaining management responses in accordance with Internal Audit departments’ processes and procedures.
  • Prepare and review quarterly reporting for audit metrics and audit findings.
  • Participate in the Internal Audit comprehensive risk assessment process.
  • Collaborate with other supporting functions, including other assurance groups and external auditors, to provide and coordinate solutions to help business lines solve difficulties and improve their overall audit experience.
  • Implement new audit techniques and technologies to improve the audit process.
  • Provide guidance and training to junior audit team members developing their skills and knowledge (professional development).

Minimum Work Experience:

At least seven (7) years of auditing experience in financial services (internal and/or external) with at least two (2) years at a supervisory level.

Minimum Education and/or Certifications Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business, technology, finance, or related field. 

Professional certifications such as CIA or similar are preferred.

Technical and/or Other Essential Knowledge:

  • Good quality computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Preferably with ability to communicate in professional range of English and Spanish. 
  • General understanding of banking regulations and processes.
  • Knowledge of U.S. GAAP, AuditBoard, Data Analytics tools and Power Bi is a plus.
