POSITION OVERVIEW
This position is responsible for assisting the consumer and/or students who have lost the ability to travel independently. The O & M Specialist provides
white cane travel training in indoor and outdoor settings, teaches consumers how to access public transportation, and orients consumers to areas of their choice and/or need. Assisting in meeting IEP requirements, attending IEP meetings, assessing new students and re-evaluating previous students progress.


EXPECTED RESULTS
As part of the Orientation & Mobility Team, the annual efforts of this program should result in:
A minimum of 65 active consumers receiving O&M training
Consumers will accomplish 70% of the goals established
80% will show improvement between pre and post training evaluation,
An improvement for 60% of those served in terms of their ability to travel independently,
60% of active consumers per year gain access public transportation


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: including the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Service Delivery:
- Conduct initial assessment to determine consumers individual needs
- Assist consumers in developing service goals
- Provide orientation and mobility training
- Track and monitor consumer progress
- Provide information and referral assistance
- Conduct post assessment to determine consumers accomplishments
- Complete required reporting to contract agencies

Public Relations/Marketing
- Conduct public education and awareness activities
- Provide community organizations with training related to Orientation & Mobility
- Assist in promoting fee generated Orientation & Mobility

Administrative and Clerical
- Activate, track and inactivate consumer files in accordance with the Leagues policies & procedures
- Maintain accurate and up to date consumer files (case files and data base files)
- Track community activities and information and referral contacts
- Provide customers with evaluation and progress reports
- Recommend the purchase of Orientation & Mobility aids and equipment

Financial
- Generate a minimum yearly of 1,761 billable hours per year
- Timely submission of billing to your supervisor

Planning
- Employee is not directly responsible for any League planning activities.


Personnel/Supervisory Responsibilities
- Employee does not have any personnel duties

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Does not supervise any staff

QUALIFICATIONS, REQUIREMENTS and DEMANDS: .: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Masters degree (M.A.) in Orientation and Mobility from an accredited college or university; or an equivalent combination of education and experience that qualifies the incumbent for certification as an Orientation & Mobility Specialist. Prefer a qualified person with a disability.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, policy manuals and procedure manuals. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, and/or other community entities. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers and community groups.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers common fractions and decimals. Ability to calculate figures, percentages, and ratios.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions and regulations in legal form or in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

INTERPERSONAL SKILLS: Ability to work cooperatively, effectively and efficiently with volunteers, agency board members, staff members, agency management and the general public. Ability to quickly build positive relationships with volunteers, agency board members, staff members, and visitors/callers. Ability to work independently, maintain positive working relationships, and function consistently as a contributing member of the Leagues staff and management team.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the essential functions of this of this job the employee is required to: 1. regularly talk and hear to communicate, 2. regularly use fingers, hands, and arms to manipulate objects, 3. regularly sit, stand, and walk and, 4. occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds, 5. rarely must physically prevent a consumer from falling and/or entering a dangerous situation.

EQUIPMENT OPERATION REQUIREMENTS: Ability to independently operate, or learn to independently operate League office equipment such as fax and copy machines in order to perform job related duties and assignments. Ability to independently operate, or learn to independently operate the Leagues computer network and software in order to perform job related duties and assignments

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to travel independently occasionally throughout the Leagues service region and, occasionally in an interstate region.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles and outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
