Join to apply for the Parks Maintenance Technician (00569) role at City of New Bern General Definition of Work Performs responsible semiskilled work in a variety of park maintenance and repair assignments; does related work as required. Work is performed under regular supervision. Essential Functions / Typical Tasks Maintaining and repairing gutters, drainage ways, buildings, and facilities. Performs a variety of tasks in maintaining and updating parks, grounds, and city right of ways. Mows grass, edges sidewalks and curbs, weeds, and blows off debris from surfaces. Operates dump body trucks, mowers, tractors, and related equipment in performance of tasks. Repairs and maintains a variety of power equipment. Plants and transplants trees, shrubs, and flowers; trims, mulches, waters and prunes trees and shrubs; sews grass seed; aerates grass areas. Performs custodial duties; cleans bathrooms; paints facilities. Prepares athletic fields for playing; marks lines. May be required to work outside normal working hours in an emergency, stand‑by status, or special events. Performs related tasks as required. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities General knowledge of the maintenance, repair and manual tasks of the area assigned. General knowledge in the use of common and specialized hand and power tools required in the work. General knowledge of the safe use and operation and preventive maintenance of mechanical equipment required in the work. Ability to perform manual labor for extended periods, often under unfavorable weather conditions. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates. Requirements Education and Experience Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and some experience as a semiskilled worker in maintenance, repair and/or construction activities. Education requirement may be waived as determined by the Department Head. Special Requirements Possession of an appropriate driver's license valid in the State of North Carolina. CPR and First Aid required or must be obtained within six (6) months. Criminal background checks are required on final internal and external candidates applying for this position with the City of New Bern.
