Job Summary
The Lactation Consultant is a professional nurse whose primary focus is to provide assistance (physical and psychological support) to breastfeeding mothers and infants.
Lactation consultants provide a variety of specialized services, including individual consultations for unusual breastfeeding situations, develop care plans in collaboration with other health care providers, teach breastfeeding classes, and instructions in the use of specific breastfeeding assistive devices.
They also serve as a resource for information and data, develop special programs or projects related to breastfeeding, provide continuing education programs for health care providers, and conduct research.
Education and/or Experience
Graduate from a CCNE or NON accredited nursing program is strongly preferred.
Graduate from an approved nursing program is acceptable.
Licensure/Certification/Registration
Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the state of South Dakota and/or meeting the requirements of multi-state licensure required.
Strongly encouraged to complete life-saving education specific to specialty area.
IBCLC required within one year of hire.
Membership in a professional organization encouraged.
Work Schedule
Monday-Friday, 7:30am-4:00pm; 64hrs/2wks
Pay
The hourly range for this position is listed below. Actual hourly rate dependent upon experience.
$32.50 - $48.75 per hour
