Role Summary The NYC Department of Design and Construction, Safety & Site Support Division seeks a Safety Accident Investigator. Under the direction of the Chief of Accident Investigations and with independent judgment, the selected candidate will manage DDC construction safety‑related programs, respond to construction emergencies, investigate accidents/incidents, and conduct root‑cause analysis to develop corrective actions. Key Responsibilities Investigate construction accidents and incidents, preparing comprehensive reports. Analyze data to identify critical safety issues, frequency, and trends on DDC construction projects. Represent the Office of Construction Safety at safety‑related meetings. Prepare and distribute safety advisories and policies. Document acceptable work practices and identify areas for improvement. Perform special safety audits and create audit reports. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with at least 28 semester credits in industrial hygiene, environmental health science, occupational health science, or safety engineering; or Bachelor’s degree with 28 semester credits in the physical or natural sciences, civil engineering, mechanical engineering, environmental engineering, chemical engineering, or toxicology plus one year of satisfactory full‑time experience in the identification, evaluation, and control of health and safety hazards; or Bachelor’s degree with two years of satisfactory full‑time work experience as described in (2); or Equivalent combination of education and experience as described in (1), (2), and (3). Semester credits may be substituted for experience on the basis of 7 semester credits equals 6 months of experience (up to 28 credits) or 7 semester credits equals 3 months of experience (up to 28 credits). All candidates must possess a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. License Requirements Valid Motor Vehicle Driver’s License in the State of New York, maintained throughout employment. Preferred Skills Excellent organizational, verbal, and written communication skills. Construction‑related experience and practical knowledge of safety requirements (OSHA, DOB, DEP). OSHA 10 or 30‑hour Construction Safety Certificate is a plus. Comfortable driving in all five boroughs of NYC.
