Job Description

About Comun

Comun’s mission is to help Hispanic immigrants turn their hard work into upwards mobility — starting with financial services that enable the transition from cash to the digital economy.

We offer checking accounts that immigrants can open using more than 100+ IDs from Latin America; more than 90K locations across the country to deposit cash; international transfers at market leading rates to 17 countries in Latin America; and 24/7 bilingual customer support with <5 min SLA across email, chat and phone.

A year ago we launched our own banking infrastructure, resulting in 100x revenue growth and 4x growth of ARPU. We currently process over $1.5B in transaction volume on a yearly basis, and crossed $100M in annualized international transfers just six months after launching them.

We’ve raised $30M from Redpoint, Costanoa Ventures, and South Park Commons, among others. Most of our team comes from leading fintech companies like Brex and Nubank.

We believe immigrants are the ultimate entrepreneurs, carrying a relentless work ethic in search of a better future for their families. Comun exists to serve them throughout their journey.

About the Role

As a Senior Front End / Mobile Engineer, you’ll be responsible for building the interface through which we deliver a unique banking experience to our users. You’ll participate in product discussions that define our roadmap, help plan its delivery, and execute on it.

You’ll bring design files to life, and maintain a component library that allows us to quickly spin up new features as we make progress through our extensive roadmap. You will also set guardrails to ensure we can ship quickly without compromising on product quality. We use React Native, Expo, Typescript, and GraphQL.

What you'll do

  • Collaborate with our product, design, and back end functions to build new features that advance the company mission.

  • Work with front end peers to establish new processes, software patterns, and tools that expedite our development process.

  • Maintain a testing and observability stack that keeps our user experience stable and proactively alerts us of issues.

  • Collaborate with our design function to maintain and update a design system and component library that enables speed and consistency.

  • Work with leadership to plan our engineering execution across different time horizons.

You are

  • Passionate about delivering delightful experiences to customers.

  • Deeply knowledgeable about the patterns behind React and its latest updates.

  • Detailed oriented with a great tact on UI/UX standards.

  • A critical thinker capable of making tradeoffs in a fast paced environment.

  • A great communicator and collaborator, capable of creating and running cross-functional processes.

  • Experienced with React Native and popular mobile libraries.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in software engineering.

  • 3+ years of experience using React or React Native in a production environment.

  • Experience with mobile testing frameworks.

  • Bonus: experience developing native iOS and Android applications.

We value domain experts that are obsessed with their craft and push the quality bar beyond reach. We also like generalists that are self-driven and entrepreneurial, who can make product decisions, conduct user testing, and fill in design gaps.

Team

We are a team of 30 based out of New York, coming from industry-leading companies like Brex, Nubank, Cruise, and Verkada. Over half of us are immigrants, and have experienced the problems we’re solving first hand. We value customer focus, high ambition, principled decision-making, and deep trust.

Benefits
  • Competitive salary and generous equity

  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance

  • Gym Pass subscription

  • Daily office lunch in NYC Office

  • Paid parental leave

  • Flexible PTO

  • Remote-friendly when traveling

  • Bi-annual company-wide offsites

  • 401(k) for US employees

  • Visit to our NYC Office for remote team members

  • Visa sponsorship
