Unit Description: The Emergency Department (ED) is a 64-bed facility with hallway utilization and 75 bays, including areas for holds and pediatrics. Our team is dedicated to providing exceptional care for critically ill patients, behavioral health patients, and hold patients, with a focus on observation and acute inpatient admissions. The department experiences an average of 150-190 visits daily.

Position Overview: We are seeking a qualified Emergency Department Nurse with a minimum of three (3) years of recent ED experience. The ideal candidate will be comfortable and proficient in managing critically ill patients and will possess the necessary certifications to provide high-quality care in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care to patients in the Emergency Department.
  • \t
  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care in collaboration with the healthcare team.
  • \t
  • Maintain a safe and therapeutic environment for patients and staff.
  • \t
  • Document patient care accurately and timely using the Cerner charting system.
  • \t
  • Adhere to hospital policies and procedures, including safety and infection control protocols.

Schedule:

    \t
  • Shift: Nights, 6:45 PM - 7:15 AM, 4 shifts per week (48 hours).
  • \t
  • Weekend Requirement: Must be available to work every other weekend (Saturday/Sunday).
  • \t
  • Float Requirements: May be required to float within specialty and possibly to ED hold.
  • \t
  • Holiday Requirement: Typically, contractors are not scheduled on holidays in the ED, but this may change based on census.
  • \t
  • RTO: No more than 3 days accepted; no block scheduling or special requests.

Education & Experience:

    \t
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required.
  • \t
  • Minimum of three (3) years of recent Emergency Department experience.
  • \t
  • Travel experience required (completion of at least one contract assignment).

Certification/Licensure:

    \t
  • Current licensure with the New Jersey State Board of Nursing.
  • \t
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • \t
  • American Heart Association Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification required within 6 months of hire.
  • \t
  • American Heart Association Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification required within 6 months of hire.
  • \t
  • National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
  • \t
  • Completion of a Critical Care Course within 1 year or 2 years of critical care experience or current Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN) certification.
  • \t
  • Completion of the Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNCC) taught by the Emergency Nurses Association within 12 months of initial assignment, followed by a minimum of 8 contact hours of education every two (2) years in trauma assessment, intervention, and stabilization.

  • National certification in specialty area preferred.

  • Client may cancel (call-off) up to one (1) shift per two week period without paying for the cancelled hours.

First day instructions(FDI):

    \t
  • FDI are emailed directly by the hospital. Please expect 3 emails on the Friday before Monday start date. Please be sure to look in the junk folder as well – emails are sent usually around 2:00 pm on Friday.

  • Monday is a virtual day - Teams call starts around 8:30 - 9 am. Invite/link sent via email. After the Teams meeting, continue the day with 'at your pace' modules sent by the facility.
  • \t
  • Badge appointment is emailed by the facility to issue the badge and review policy/procedures. The ID badge is very important to obtain prior to Orientation Shift. This is how you will clock in and out – so you can be paid accurately.
  • \t
  • Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday – orientation classes are scheduled ONSITE 1-4 hours long in early afternoon and details are sent after Monday meeting is completed. These are MUST attend and cannot be rescheduled or missed- you will take the end of class assignment which is required to schedule the orientation shift.

  • Orientation shift - Fri/Sat/Sun shift which will be at the time of the shift hired for and schedule will be made available after Tue/Wed/Thur orientation classes have been completed.
  • \t
  • The POCT class is scheduled for the 2nd or 3rd week of the assignment. Please share your POCT class date with us once received and remember to attend.
  • \t
  • You must be available for the full 7 days of the first week for Orientation. No special scheduling is permitted for orientation. If you cannot attend or miss any part of the full orientation the offer will be rescinded.
