Upper Division French Teacher

The Berkeley Preparatory School Department of World Languages is seeking a dedicated, energetic, professional individual to teach French, grades 9-12. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of his or her role in a vertically integrated curriculum, excellent cultural knowledge, and the ability to apply student-centered methods in a challenging, invigorating, and growth-oriented atmosphere. Berkeley Preparatory School's World Language curriculum is ACTFL-aligned, and our planning and assessment practices follow ACTFL recommendations. Candidates must show a strong willingness to collaborate, receive feedback regularly, and grow professionally. An understanding of the value of technology in the classroom and an ability to apply technology when it is most advantageous are assumed. 

Strong candidates will:

1. Have familiarity and comfort with student-centered, high-leverage communicative methods of teaching.
2. Already have a functional knowledge of, or be willing to learn about, the three modes our assessments are built around: the interpersonal mode, the presentational mode, and the interpretive mode.
3. Be comfortable using can dos/learning targets to structure individual lessons and units. 
4. Be prepared to deliver lessons with 90% target language use, per ACTFL recommendations.
5. Work with a dedicated team to implement an established, textbook-independent curriculum and manage proper pacing.

** The ability to teach some Spanish classes will be considered a strong asset.

Compensation and Benefits:

The appointment is available August 2025 and is a full-time, salary, exempt position and eligible for full benefits. The compensation package will be very competitive nationally and commensurate with experience, certification attainment, and the national independent school and college markets.
