OverviewThe Vascular Access Registered Nurse (VA-RN) provides services to inpatients and outpatients who require specialized assistance for placement and/or maintenance of vascular access devices. Based on individualized assessment of vascular access needs, the VA-RN selects the appropriate device and insertion site. The VA-RN serves as a resource for patients, families, and staff for maintenance of vascular access devices; in order to decrease risk of complications, including blood stream infections. The VA-RN identifies and meets the educational needs of patients, families, and staff.
