Job Description
**Job Summary:**
The Regional Nurse Consultant is responsible for providing clinical oversight, guidance, and support to skilled nursing facilities within a designated region. This role ensures that all nursing services and care delivery meet state and federal regulations, facility policies, and the highest standards of quality and safety. The Regional Nurse Consultant collaborates with facility leadership and nursing staff to promote clinical excellence, improve resident outcomes, and ensure compliance with healthcare regulations.
**Key Responsibilities:**
1. **Clinical Oversight and Support:**
- Conduct regular on-site visits to each facility within the region to evaluate nursing services and ensure compliance with company policies and regulatory standards.
- Provide guidance and support to Directors of Nursing (DONs) and nursing staff on clinical best practices, care delivery, and regulatory compliance.
- Assist facilities in developing and implementing effective care plans, policies, and procedures to ensure high-quality resident care.
2. **Quality Improvement:**
- Lead quality improvement initiatives across the region, focusing on enhancing resident care outcomes, reducing adverse events, and improving overall quality indicators.
- Monitor key clinical performance metrics and collaborate with facility staff to identify areas for improvement and implement corrective action plans.
- Facilitate root cause analysis for incidents, infections, and other adverse events, and guide facilities in developing preventive strategies.
3. **Regulatory Compliance:**
- Ensure that all nursing practices and documentation meet federal, state, and local regulatory requirements, including those set by CMS, OSHA, and state health departments.
- Prepare facilities for regulatory surveys and audits, providing education and support to staff to ensure readiness and compliance.
- Assist in the development and implementation of action plans to address deficiencies identified during surveys and audits.
4. **Education and Training:**
- Develop and deliver ongoing education and training programs for nursing staff to enhance clinical competencies, regulatory knowledge, and adherence to best practices.
- Mentor and support Directors of Nursing and other clinical leaders in professional development and leadership skills.
- Promote a culture of continuous learning and improvement within the nursing teams across all facilities.
5. **Policy Development and Implementation:**
- Collaborate with corporate leadership to develop and revise clinical policies and procedures, ensuring alignment with current regulations and best practices.
- Ensure consistent implementation of policies and procedures across all facilities within the region.
- Provide guidance on infection control practices and emergency preparedness, ensuring readiness for any public health emergencies or outbreaks.
6. **Collaboration and Communication:**
- Act as a liaison between facility nursing leadership and corporate clinical operations, facilitating communication and sharing of best practices.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including medical directors, therapy staff, and social services, to promote holistic and person-centered care.
- Participate in regional and corporate meetings, providing clinical insights and recommendations for operational improvements.
**Qualifications:**
- Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing in the state(s) of practice.
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) required; Master’s degree in Nursing (MSN) or Healthcare Administration preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of nursing experience in a skilled nursing or long-term care setting, with at least 3 years in a leadership or consulting role.
- Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations related to skilled nursing and long-term care, including CMS guidelines.
- Experience in quality improvement, regulatory compliance, and staff education.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to travel frequently within the designated region.
