Job Description

Special Events Coordinator

The City of Auburn Parks, Arts, & Recreation Department is seeking a talented Special Events Coordinator. This position performs professional work involving developing, implementing, and coordinating various special events. Note: This position will be supervising the Farmers Market, thus this position will be required to work on Sundays, June to mid-September.

In this role, you will:

  • Schedules, organizes, facilitates, coordinates, and evaluates participants, vendors, contractors, volunteers, and other related participation in a variety of special events including, but not limited to, initial contact, follow-up, and event day requirements and support; recruits new sponsors and vendors, as necessary.
  • Works closely with the other Parks staff in the planning and oversight of special programs, program development, administrative support, day-of-event duties, and supervision of volunteers, facilities, and/or programs.
  • Coordinates, organizes, and tracks different event budgets, vendor payments, contractors, supplies, volunteers, and non-benefitted staff related to events.
  • Provides administrative and technical support to the Events, Projects, and Marketing Manager for marketing publications, grant applications, and other special programs, as assigned.
  • Works courteously and effectively with public officials, citizens, contractors, vendors, developers, supervisors, and other employees, both in person and over the telephone, assisting them with a wide variety of information pertaining to City and department.

We are looking for candidates who have:

  • Bachelor's Degree in recreation, Public Relations or closely related field
  • AND Two years of successful professional work experience in a related
  • OR a combination of education, experience, and training that indicates the ability to successfully complete the essential elements of the job listed above.
  • Licenses/Certification Required: Valid state driver's license, without impending loss at time of appointment.
